Common Sense Review

Charity Kahn has a talent for producing lively, danceable albums, and ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF is no exception. Using excellent musicians and interesting instrumental arrangements, the songs on Charity and the JAMband's third CD will be appealing even to very young children.
Charity Kahn, as lead singer, is at her best when she lets her voice be itself -- natural and sweet, floating lightly above the perky music.
Attempts to sound big and bluesy are less successful, and one moment of operatic hysteria sounds downright silly, but most of the vocals are appealing and friendly, and Charity puts her songs across with the kind of "nice Auntie" energy and spirit that young children love.
The songs are all danceable, with clever lyrics and positive messages for young kids, celebrating small joyful moments in family life. "Travelin'" is about going on a road trip, "Super Hero" is about dress-up play (and finding out some super-special things about being you, while you're at it), "Towel Tango," "We Need Mud," and "Cake" about the simple pleasures found in a child's ordinary day."Peace Dream" is an unusually poignant and affecting moment, interrupting the dance party with a little prayer for peace on earth.
Presented in a variety of musical styles, all of the tracks are carefully and lovingly produced, and the vocals easy to understand.
Charity and the JAMband have found a formula for producing appealing, child-friendly music that doesn't talk down to kids -- and for that very reason, won't drive their parents crazy. ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF is full-tilt family fun.
