Why We Rated This not for kids

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

A truly nasty, exploitively sexist take on women, along with an astounding degree of self-absorption.
  • Violence:

Some violence of the "take yo arm and pull the trigger finger" variety.
  • Sex:

Explicit sexual references: "I'm c--king on yo bitch ass" and "super soak that ho" are among the more poetic.
  • Language:

An adolescent delight in saying four-letter words over and over again is the closest Soulja Boy gets to charming.
  • Consumerism:

Many references to cell phone and sneaker brands and an insidious sense that things are far more important than people.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

A few references, but not the real problem here.

What Parents Need to Know

About Souljaboytellem

Parents need to know -- and really, it's all they need to know -- is that Soulja Boy speaks more affectionately and personally about his cell phone (and other expensive possessions) than about the women in his life, all of whom seem to be interchangeable "hos." There's also plenty of swearing, product placement, and some violence.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about Soulja Boy's stunningly sexist and nasty attitude about women. Does the fact that this artist is only 17 years old make it OK for him to be this clueless? Why does he need to talk about women this way -- does it make him sound tougher? Also, families can talk about how a single becomes so huge. What about "Crank That" caused it to sell so well?

I rate this title iffy for age 17 and give it 1.0
    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate sexual content
    • Inappropriate language

    Barely appropriate for 17+.

I like how the songs sound, but I do NOT like the lyrics. The only song I listen to from this album is "crank dat", and I listen to the clean version. The clean version is on for 14+ and the explicit version is iffy for 17+.

    • Inappropriate sexual content

    • Negative message
    • Negative role models

The only song i like by soulja boy is yahh. the rest is crap, he swears in every sentence almost and most of his songs are about sex or something .
