What Parents Need to Know
About Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
Parents need to know that nearly all of the material on this record romanticizes killing, suicide, and going down in flames with guns ablaze. The cover is representative of the content, showing blood-splashed lovers. My Chemical Romance can make violence and funeral homes seem sexy, especially to teenagers. Stories often revolve around Bonnie and Clyde-type themes. The lyrics are definitely too much for tweens and young teens. There's also cursing in four or five songs for dramatic effect.

Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about putting the stories in context, that they're fictional and not representative of real life. In what ways are these modern tales similar to classic romantic tragedies where love gets cut short needlessly? Why would anyone find "romance" in violence?

A wonderful album, but you should only listen if you can handle it.
I love this album to death. I'm a huge MCR fan, and this is my favorite album by them. Before you go and critisize the lyrics, you should try to find the deeper meaning in them. Yes, it's there, trust me. It's about trying to get through life.
- I rate this title iffy for age 13 and give itMy concerns are:
- Excessive violence
Very, very dark, but still not as explicit as some would have you believe.
I got this album when I was 13, and, back then, I was as suicidal and death-obsessed as they come. But even though this album has a lot of suicidal and death obsessed themes in it, I didn't say, "Wow! That sounds like fun! I think I'll go slit my wrist!" I just related to it. This album was a great emotional release for me at the time. You still don't want to hand the album over to your two year-old and say, "Here, listen to this!" The album contains content that would be frightening to anyone who has never dealt with suicidal ideation or any sort of morbid curiosity, but it's great for those of us who have. Of course, you have to be careful, because I'm just going on my own personal experience, and I have no idea how it will affect your teen. But my guess is, if they felt the way I did, they're going to find it very helpful.

My Chem Saves Lives
This band and their music are the reason my heart is still beating. I kid you not. Their music is about surviving this harsh world by whatever means neccessary. It's about taking down the ignorant bigots who get in your way and living the way you want. It's about revealing what a hellhole the world has truly become. The band are great people themselves, especially the vocalist and bassists, Gerard and Mikey Way. The represent survival. At one time they were both addicted to alcohol and drugs, but they survived and lived to be clean and sober, unlike so many addicts in the world today. To me the represent hope. This band was the initial cause that stopped me from comitting suicide four years ago, and I've loved them ever since.
- I rate this title on for age 5 and give it
I really love this album. I don't honestly think that five year olds should listen too it but I'm trying to illustrate a point. My point is that anyone 11 or 12 or older can handle what the lyrics. Anyone 12 or 13 and up can handle what the songs are about. Anyone below the age of ten won't care, let alone comprehend, what the lyrics are and are about. Younger kids just like too sing along. A five year old isn't going to understand that "Clean me off I'm so dirty" means "I feel dirty inside from collecting these souls for satin so I can go to heaven and be with her even though I think the devil isn't going to follow threw and I'm going to be stuck in hell" So let your five year old's listen to it if you want since they won't be able to understand what he's saying. Let your ten year olds here it because they won't care what the songs are about, and let your teens hear it because it really is a great story of epic proportions and it's beyond the normal and boring. Finally, you listen to it, because the only person who can really decide whether this album is "17 and up" is you. You know your kidsm and you know what they can handle.
