Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that Brooke Hogan's lyrics are innocuous, and also not very interesting. "S--t" is said once, if you're a stickler, and a few clothing brand names are mentioned. The rest is nothing new, nothing brilliant, and nothing much.
Families can talk about the outfit Brooke is almost wearing on her CD cover. Given the fact that her parents appear to be strict (if her dad's demeanor on their reality show is a true indication) about sexuality and also manage her career, why do you think they chose such a provocative look for their daughter?
Common Sense Review
Reviewed By: Kathi Kamen Goldmark
Brooke Hogan is known to reality show viewers as the daughter of wrestling star Hulk Hogan, and her music will have the greatest appeal to fans of Hogan Knows Best. UNDISCOVERED is a collection of nicely produced, danceable pop songs performed by a beautiful young woman with a pleasant, little-girl warble and enough sexy attitude to put herself across.
Hogan sounds like she's having a blast on 14 very similar tracks -- most of which cover the same lyrical territory. There are guys and relationships, of course, and dancing in the clubs, and cute outfits, and more guys and more dancing. The lyrics are innocuous and also beside the point. There's nothing wrong with them, but there's also nothing especially interesting about them -- though it's refreshing to hear a young woman step up, without all the usual sexist posturing that accompanies the male equivalent, and embrace club/party life with the big boys.
Beyond that, there's nothing much to say about Undiscovered. It turns out that the most provocative thing about this gentle, pleasant album is the cover -- Hogan is dressed in a skimpy black leather bikini that nearly completely exposes one breast. Despite the fact that she comes off looking like a 30-year-old stripper here, 18-year-old Hogan plays it safe in every other way -- vocally, musically, and in the message of her unmemorable but non-controversial lyrics. Guest appearances by Paul Wall and Beenie Man do manage to add a little spice.
Fans of Undiscovered will probably also like Kelly Clarkson and Janet Jackson.
