What Parents Need to Know

This review of Unfabulous and More was written by Kathi Kamen Goldmark

Parents need to know that the scariest thing about this CD is Emma reaching for the high notes.

More on Unfabulous and More

What’s the Story?

We dare you to walk into the room while your kids are watching Unfabulous and not be drawn in, in spite of yourself. Emma Roberts is absolutely charming as Addie on the Nickelodeon show, in which she plays the part of a teenager with a passion for rock & roll. You'll find yourself rooting for her every inch of the way as she deals with mean teachers and clueless classmates in her never-ending campaign to be Understood as an Artist. She is bright, energetic, adorable, and irresistible. The lyrics of her brand-new CD, UNFABULOUS AND MORE, deal with some issues that are important to tweens -- love lost and found, being one of the unpopular kids, longing for acceptance and respect.

Is It Any Good?

Unfabulous and More attempts to put "Addie's" songs across without the benefit of Emma Roberts' visual charm or acting ability, and it sort of works some of the time -- but not nearly enough to be a good album. There's a baby-doll, nasal quality to the lead vocals that is effective when the songs are heard one at a time in the context of a TV show, but starts to get annoying about three songs in...and the songs themselves aren't terrific enough to compensate. One tune at a time on a compilation or multi-artist soundtrack would be the perfect way to hear Emma Roberts' music, even though she is a natural-born scene stealer as an actress. The best way to enjoy Emma Roberts is still on Nickelodeon.

    Poor Girl

I feel bad for Emma Roberts. She is a cute pre-teen actress but when it comes to singing...yikes. I think she should stick to Unfabulous only. This is like Hilary Duff trying to sing...it just doesn't work.

    Ah no.

This is based on a show about a girl who thinks she can sing but can't. This is a CD that reflects her talent to make people's ears bleed.

    Emma cant sing. period.

I wouldnt ever buy this CD. I went onto an online music store and listened to all the samples just for fun, and could already tell from the one minute samples that she could not sing. Her high notes are attrocious. Plus I always hear her sing on the show Unfabulous (which also stinks) and the lyrics are sooooo dumb. I always mute the TV if I watch the show and she pulls out that guitar and starts singing her random lyrics. If you are my age and you buy this then there is something wrong with you

    THIS CD IS GOOD!

EMMA ROBERTS IS A GOOD SINGER FOR HER AGE! JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK SHE STINKS DOESNT MEAN SHE DOES!
