Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that there is no objectionable material here. This CD/DVD package is ideal for preschoolers who love to sing and dance.
Families can talk about music basics. What are the different instruments you hear? Can you pick out the different voices? Can you tap along with the different tempos? This is a great album for parents and kids to sing along to together.
Common Sense Review

Laurie Berkner, today's hottest children's recording artist, presents a DVD/CD package featuring a bunch of bouncy, catchy, happy tunes that toddlers -- and parents -- will likely find irresistible. You just can't help liking Berkner's attitude: She obviously enjoys her work, and that's one of the main reasons why her music resonates with kids.
Berkner's singing, song writing, and arrangements are consistently pleasant. Standouts include "Moon, Moon, Moon" for its gentle appeal and accompanying hand gestures and "Walk Along the River," a rock 'n' roll number (also found on the enclosed bonus CD) that will have parents tapping the steering wheel and kids pleasantly singing "Oooo Ahhh, Oooo Ahhh" instead of fighting with one another in the back seat.
Families may find it refreshing to see a real person (as opposed to an animated character) who doesn't rely on puppets, outlandish props, or overt slapstick humor to entertain.
Many children's artists, producers, and record companies have come to believe that kids need to be attended to like they're at a circus. Berkner relies instead on her voice, her guitar, and those funny songs little kids enjoy hearing again and again. At her side on this DVD are two band members (more real people) and more than a few happy, smiling kids.
