What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this soundtrack features music by the movie's stars, Disney "it" girl Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Drew Seeley, who helped out Zac Efron's singing in High School Musical. It's full of catchy, upbeat dance tracks that are appropriate for all ages.

Positive messages: Good: Growing up and beating the odds against you, pursuing dreams. "No Average Angel" talks about being "real" and not buying into the "plastic surgery, designer jeans, and bling on the VMAs."
Violence: Not applicable.
Sex: Only a mention to "put your hands on my hips and dip with it" and "you wanna eat me up like a Scooby Snack" -- referring to dancing.
Language: Not applicable.

Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about how soundtracks help promote the movies they're tied into -- and vice versa. Do the artists who appear on a soundtrack determine whether or not you'll buy the CD -- or see the movie?

What's the story?

What's the story?
A comedic twist on the enduring, classic fairy tale, Another Cinderella Story tells the tale of -- you guessed it -- an unfortunate young girl (Selena Gomez) seeking the love of -- surprise!, a charming young prince. In this case, it's a charming young singer (Drew Seeley), and the soundtrack proves to be the right fit for the modern twist: full of upbeat, synth-heavy dance tracks with fun, youthful lyrics. The 14-song album includes new pop and hip-hop infused songs like Gomez's "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" and "New Classic," sung by Seeley, as well as tracks from rising stars like Tiffany Giardina and Lil' JJ. The DVD will be released September 16 and the movie will debut on ABC Family in late 2008.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

You know it's a classic when the same story can be told over and over and over and still bring the fans. Just pop in a few tween superstars, switch out some props, (say, an iPod for a glass slipper), and pump up the music with some contemporary beats and hi-tech synthesizing, and you've got the soundtrack to Another Cinderella Story. Fans will love the quirky, cat-and-mouse lyrics and peppy music, although it does seem a little too synth-heavy at times. Seeley shines his Michael Jackson-esque vocals on tracks like "Just That Girl," and "Bang a Drum" is infectious with its hand claps and percussion. The hip-hop, school-dance relay "Don't Be Shy" features Lil' JJ, with a boys vs. girls battle of ditties.
