What parents need to know
Parents need to know that this CD isn't for everyone (and certainly not for kids and young teens); but for those who don't mind exuberant sexual explicitness, this is a terrific dance record.
What's the story?
Legendary Jamaican DJ Beenie Man, who signed his first record deal at the ripe old age of 8, takes us back to his island roots on BACK TO BASICS. Nearly 100% libidinous, the lyrics will not be for everyone and are not appropriate for kids. But for those who don't mind cheerfully sexual content, this is one terrific dance record. The CD opens with "Dude," featuring a duet with Ms. Thing singing "I want a dude with the wickedest slam...I want a dude who would do me in his van," with caramel-smooth sweetness as Beenie Man boasts about his own sexual prowess. A delicate flute track and hypnotic groove somehow give the explicit lyrics a playful, rather than crude, feeling.
Is it any good?
Though most of the songs on the album are about sex, one of the high points is "If A Neva God" featuring Kirk Davis -- an exquisite Gospel/Reggae hybrid that immediately gets under your skin. Back to Basics was produced by island heavyweights such as Dave and Tony Kelly and Don Corleone. Its pounding beats and insidious musical hooks keep the energy going under Beenie Man's machine-gun vocal delivery. The result is no-holds-barred dance party fun.
What families can talk about
Families can talk about the enticing raggae beat and how it really makes you want to dance. For older teens, it may be a good idea to acknowledge the sexual content -- and to consider if it somehow adds to the mood.

i really like this cd, but i think that i should have tried to find a edited version,you can't really understand what he (beenie man) is saying until you listen to it a few times
