Parents need to know that Miss Duff has turned up the heat with sexually provocative lyrics that may be too hot to handle for younger fans.
With a nod to various musical influences, the songs on BEST OF HILARY DUFF borrow heavily from some unlikely sources, including samples from Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" and lyrics from Ludacris' "What's Your Fantasy." Duff deftly combines the infectious dance beats she's known for with a more sultry vocal tone reminiscent of Nelly Furtado and even Britney Spears.
Hilary Duff isn't for tweens anymore. The hit single "Reach Out" features more aggressive sexual lyrics ("Baby can't you see how you're affecting me? Baby sensual, physical-fantasy,") than on previous albums. While Dignity was OK for 11 year olds, the Best Of compilation pushes the target age higher. The funky remixes and danceable electronic beats are fun and catchy, but the sexed-up lyrics and themes aren't intended for younger fans.
Families can talk about Hilary Duff's continued progress toward maturity. Is sex in the media growing up or selling out? Does Duff still remain a responsible role-model for younger audiences? How does lyrical content affect audiences?
