What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is a collection of favorites from the oft-featured Nick Jr. band. Be aware that this CD only offers one new song; if you already have all the past albums, it may not be worth your while to purchase this one. For new fans, however, this is a must-have.

  • Great message in song "Fast and Slow" about taking your time and "smelling the roses."  "I'm Not Perfect" lets kids know it's OK to have flaws and that trying your best is what counts.
  • In "I'm Not Perfect" the band sings that trying your best is more important than always doing things perfectly.

What's the story?

Fans of the scarf-wearing, curly-headed regular on Nick Jr. can have all of their favorite Laurie Berkner tunes in one place with this greatest hits album, THE BEST OF THE LAURIE BERKNER BAND. It's 20 tracks full of Berkner's unique brand of indie-rock that kids crave and parents appreciate. "Rocketship Run," "Victor Vito," "Fast and Slow," "Five Days Old," and "Song in My Tummy" are just a few of the sweet treats featured on this all-in-one album. There are three bonus tracks, including the new song, "Open Your Heart."

Is it any good?

If your kiddos watch Nick Jr., then you've heard the Laurie Berkner Band. Her songs "Fast and Slow" (The Rabbit and the Turtle) and "Five Years Old" are regularly heard there.  Berkner's way with storytelling and a guitar shine through on music that's unique and interesting to kids (and parents!) without being dumbed-down or unsophisticated. Songs like "I'm Not Perfect," "Open Your Heart," and "Fast and Slow" teach kids about loving yourself, friendship, and appreciating the sweetness in life.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about how Laurie Berkner's music always tells a story. Do you think the music that the band plays fits the story that's being told? For example, what kind of music is on the song "We are the Dinosaurs?" What about "Moon Moon Moon?" How are they different? Do you think the music is important when trying to sing about something in particular? Why?

  • This band is often featured on Nick Jr.  Are you more likely to want to buy the music if you recognize it from TV?
