What parents need to know

Parents need to know that although the CD contains some adult content -- including the occasional f-bomb and sexual description -- it's much cleaner than the average rap or hip-hop album. Parents shouldn't hesitate to get the album for their teens, especially if it's the edited version.

  • Though B.o.B covers some serious topics, like wondering if the price of fame is worth it, this record doesn't have an overwhelmingly negative tone and includes some especially positive messages about love. For example, in the song "Lovelier than You," B.o.B sings about "If I could rewind mostly hands of time / Still I would never find a lovelier design than you."
  • Nineteen-year-old B.o.B has been keeping it clean and working hard to become a rapper since age fourteen.
  • Not applicable.
  • The occasionally graphic sexual description, such as: "So leap on my body, and as we come you'll probably feel moist like the trees on the tropics."

What's the story?

On his first full-length, major-label CD, B.O.B PRESENTS: THE ADVENTURES OF BOBBY RAY,  Atlanta native Bobby Ray Simmons (a.k.a. B.o.B) gets help from an impressive roster of guest artists: Hayley Williams of Paramore, Lupe Fiasco, Bruno Mars, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, T.I., and more. These musicians help B.o.B to explore many of the same topics covered by his contemporaries, including the ups and downs of newfound fame, artistic dominance over the competition, and young love. However, this young artist does it a little bit cleaner than his peers, including less profanity and references to violence, sexual situations, and substances than the average rapper. While there's still an explicit version of this album, it's a lot less offensive than many others out there, and the clean version is definitely OK for kids.

Is it any good?

Not only is this record different in terms of its cleaner-than-average content, but its uniqueness also comes through in its sound. From the pop-punk influences of Hayley Williams to the super-smooth vocals of Bruno Mars to the alt-rock overtones of Rivers Cuomo, B.o.B truly pushes the boundaries in each tune, making you eager to hear what's coming next. B.o.B mixes it up himself as well: by both singing and rapping, he lends even more interest to every track.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about how a young newcomer like B.o.B can cut an album that's so much more creative than records by older artists who've been around for years. What qualities does a musical artist have to have in order to make an album that's truly special?

  • What lessons about making an exceptional record can other artists take from B.o.B?

Incredible rap debut, may want to get the clean version....
Wonderful debut album by B.o.B. The rap is very clever and the music is amazing. B.o.B. does a good job of featuring artists and mixing musical genres so that your not hearing the same thing over and over again. The album is not just for rap fans, it features everything from a popular pop-rap fusion single to an acoustic ballad. There are some f-bombs dropped and a few other choice words and one or two graphic references to things like sex and weed but WAY less than other rap albums. I would recommend for any ages, but you might want to get the clean version.

Awesome!
Let me start off by saying I hate rap music!! But if I had to but a rap CD, I would choose this CD. It is really good! I really like Past My Shades, Airplanes, and Lovlier Than You so I decided to buy the album to see how the rest of it is. It is awesome!! I love it! It's not just for people who like rap.

This album is great! I love the mix of different types of songs with rap, hip hop, r&b, and pop. However, even if you let your kids listen to nothin on you and even the somewhat explicit airplanes youll still want to look into this. ive heard 2 h words, one s word, and one a word to name a few. also, the whole song bet i talks about drugs.

not that bad, but i liked it
theres the clean version of this album available, which the songs are some catchy, but fun to listen to, all it talks about is fame, celebrity as such, since i was listening to the last track of airplanes part 2, which included eminem cursing throughout in the explicit edition, the language he used is "pissed", "s--t", "b---h", "a--", and "f--k", and in the clean version which bleeped out except for the word "pissed", but this album has plenty of occasionally graphic sexual descriptions are included, and i really enjoyed listening to this album like some other time

Overall a great album. and i'm not a hip-hop fan :D
I acutally have to agree with Commonsense on this one. B.o.B's album is an excellent rap debut. Plus its filled with songs feat. awesome artists like Hayley Williams and Eminem (not sure if i spelled it right). The only thing B.o.B is lacking on this album is a song with Green Day...........
