Parents need to know that this single is a wholesome song about the game of football and many of the small-town traditions around it. The tune contains no graphic language or adult content, aside from a few innocuous references to "knockin' heads and talkin' trash." It's a fine song for kids and adults of all ages.
Feel-good lyrics characterize the song "BOYS OF FALL" by country megastar Kenny Chesney: "When I feel that chill, smell that fresh cut grass, I'm back in my helmet,
cleats, and shoulder pads / Standin' in the huddle, listenin' to the
call, fans goin' crazy for the boys of fall." A track off of Chesney's full length album Hemingway's Whiskey, this tune chronicles the events surrounding the game of football -- and all of the traditions that come along with it. Lacking any graphic language or adult references, it's an appropriate choice for both kids and adults who love football and country music.
One of the trademarks of a good country song is its ability to evoke the life experiences that people value most. Chesney certainly succeeds in doing that here, which helps to make up for the merely passable vocals and somewhat unimaginative melody in this song. That said, the solid overall performance will undoubtedly make this another radio hit for Chesney.
Families can talk about traditions. What are your family's most special traditions? What makes them so memorable and important?
What are two new traditions that you'd like your family to start, and why?
