Parents need to know that there's more than meets the eye here; in this case, it's not just a kiddie CD about bugs. Mister G is a highly educated musician who writes music that spans genres, instruments, and languages (he's fluent in Spanish), not to mention funny kid topics that educate and inspire. You can feel good knowing that your little ones are listening to music and content that's not only appropriate and meaningful, but also perfect for young ears and hearts.
Mister G (otherwise known as Ben Gundersheimer) makes music that is meant to promote a child's creativity and environmental awareness, while touching on topics that are kid-centered: bugs, siblings, bathtubs, snow days, grilled cheese, and the importance of friends. On his second album, BUGS, Mister G's musical style is lighthearted but diverse, giving kids a taste of folk, blues, jazz, country, reggae, and ska, and parents an album they'll actually want to listen to.
Mister G demonstrates such a wide variety of musical styles that neither parents nor their kids will have a chance to get bored while listening to any of the fourteen songs on Bugs. Who could resist singing about a reptile in Spanish ("Crocodilo") or celebrating the goodness of melted cheese and bread ("Grilled Cheese")? These endearing everyday topics are sure to resonate with kids and get them moving and singing along. Given the playful subjects and spectrum-crossing sounds, this album is the definition of music that the whole family can enjoy together.
Families can talk about the importance of friends and siblings. What are some ways that you show that you care about your friends or your brother or sister? What do they do for you?
Can you think of friends or siblings that are portrayed on TV or in a book that you like? What do you like about their relationship?
There are several different styles of music on this album. Which is your favorite? Why?
