What parents need to know

Parents need to know that they might find themselves enjoying the imaginative songs, although listening to Cookie Monster's voice for 45 minutes could become a bit unnerving. (Younger children, it seems, can't get enough of it.)

What's the story?

If your little one loves Cookie Monster, C IS FOR COOKIE is the recording for you. The songs are filled with imaginative ideas. In "If Moon Was Cookie," Cookie Monster says he would put on a space suit and ride to the moon in a rocket ship just to take a bite! "Breakfast Time" reveals that Cookie's favorite breakfast includes soft-boiled cookies and a glass of cookie juice. "The Ballad of Casey McPhee" celebrates the value of courage, with Cookie Monster overcoming a moral dilemma in order to eat his way through a major obstacle. And the concept of opposites is introduced in "Up and Down."

Is it any good?

A variety of musical styles and clever lyrics make this album a delight for young children. One 4-year-old, after listening intently, asked repeatedly if she could hear "the Cookie Monster" again. Young children will love the humor in these songs, and their siblings are likely to also find C IS FOR COOKIE thoroughly entertaining.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about some of the topics to be learned in these fun-filled songs. Common circular shapes (the sun, the letter O) are explored in "Circles", so what are other round items? "Healthy Food" serves up a playful rock song that encourages children to eat a varied diet. Discuss whether various foods are junk or healthy.
