Parents need to know that this soundtrack is a dance album with some good themes about friendship and being strong that stays within the usual tame Disney musical conventions. Several of the songs ("Cheetah Love" and "I'm the One"), however, might make girls feel that they need to be like the Cheetah Girls in order to be cool. In these songs, the Girls discuss how great it is to be them -- from having great friends to knowing hip dance moves.
Positive messages:"Cheetah Love" discusses the merits of friendship and loyalty: "We are Cheetah Cheetah Girls/we stick together for life/Sometimes we don't see eye to eye/but we roll side by side." Several of the songs ("Cheetah Love" and "I'm the One"), however, might make girls feel that they need to be like the Cheetah Girls in order to be cool. Consumerism:The soundtrack is from the Disney Channel movie One World. The Cheetah Girls are also heavily promoted in Disney merchandising from toys to clothing.
I rented the CD from a library. Immediately when I put on the songs I loved them. Some I didn't like because they were slow and I prefer more upbeat songs. My ultimate favorites out of all are Cheetah Love and I'm the One. I liked the CD so much that this summer my friends, cousin, and sister are going to put on a play with the songs. We're cutting out boyfriend scenes and whatever and we may change around the storyline a little bit, but I know it will be AWESOME!
