What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this album features standard-issue romantic pop tunes performed by a stunning voice that's remarkably seasoned for a 19-year-old.

What's the story?

According to her official bio, Marseilles-born chanteuse Cherie has been singing ever since she can remember -- and it shows. With more control and depth than most performers her age (she's 19), she delivers one near-perfect performance after another on CHERIE. Her vocals elevate standard-issue pop tunes to a much higher level; her songs seem more passionate, intelligent, and musical than they would if performed by a less accomplished singer. Although the lyrics have almost nothing to say about anything, in this case it's the medium that's important and not the message.

Is it any good?

Cherie's incredible voice wraps itself around lyrics of banal romance, backed up by skillful production and fine musicianship. Everyone knows when to get out of the way and let this new vocal star shine. This is an appealing and pleasant album, with nothing to offend. It will be especially interesting and inspiring to aspiring singers.
