Parents need to know that this CD, based on Andre Benjamin's ultra-cool Cartoon Network animated show, employs all the elements of appealing children's music without ever being condescending. As on most kids' records, there are gently positive messages (music being good for you is a major theme), clearly audible vocals, and a lot of repetition, but the instrumental tracks are sophisticated and the lyrics interesting enough to appeal to the whole family. The devilish voice on "We Want Your Soul" might be scary to very young children.
Outkast's Andre "3000" Benjamin's distinctive voice is the glue that holds CLASS OF 3000: MUSIC VOLUME ONE together, featuring 14 very cool songs from the Cartoon Network's animated kids' show. If you haven't seen the show, it might take a few listens for the lyrics to make sense. Not that it matters, because the variety of music and positive themes will hold your interest -- from the jazzy piano vamp on "Kim Kam Jam" to "Luna Love's" Latin rhythms.
Andre and company have created a sparkling, witty, and educational collection of songs, in a variety of musical styles, that never talk down to kids. There are gently positive messages (such as that music is good for you and that each person is unique), clearly audible vocals, and a lot of repetition, but the instrumental tracks are sophisticated and the lyrics interesting enough to appeal to the whole family.
Families can talk about "Life Without Music." The lyrics suggest that "life without music equals life without love," and that music can teach us and help us live more fully. Do you agree? How has music made a difference in your life?
