What parents need to know

Parents need to know that your tween will be into this star of Wizards of Waverly Place because she's in heavy rotation on Radio Disney. This single is a remake of the classic tune from 101 Dalmatians, and talks about how scary Cruella De Vil is.

  • Not applicable.
  • Some scary lyrics for kids ("All innocent children better beware/she likes a spider waiting for a kill/If she doesn't scare you/no evil thing will"), but if they can sit through the movie, they'll be fine listening to the song.
  • Not applicable.

What's the story?

"CRUELLA DE VIL" is the theme song of sorts of the mean main character in the Disney classic 101 Dalmatians. It's been updated by Selena Gomez to include guitar-heavy riffs in the chorus.

Is it any good?

It's been updated by Selena Gomez to include guitar-heavy riffs in the chorus.

Sometimes it's not a great idea to mess with a classic, but Gomez' remake of this well-known Disney tune, makes it more accessible to tweens today. With a hint of Christina Aguilera, Gomez nails every note and breaks out of the suppressed "Disney" voice to let herself rock. Just try getting this catchy tune out of your head.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the Disney empire. How effective is their marketing? Why do you think they're such a tight-knit company? How do you feel about how they groom their stars?

No. Just No.
The original version of the song is WAY better than the Selena Gomez version. The song "Cruella de Vil" was not meant to be some kind of pop song. Selena Gomez is a mediocre singer. Do not listen to this.

Really for anyone
I think it is perfectlly fine and anyone over 4 should be fine. Maybe some young kids might be afraid of how the song describes Cruella De Vil but if your kid isn't afraid of much or just not afraid of the movie then it is fine. Selena Gomez is a good role model from what I have read in the media and on websites so it really is up to you to let your kid or younger sibling listen to the song but for other songs by Selena I would wait until they get to be six or over just because mention crushes and six is normally when girls get close to having crushes or have crushes.

She's got talent, I don't want to throw her down...
Its okay, she made it sound good, but I'll stick with the older version, the one that wasn't tweenilized.

Ehh...
Well...the song is okay, I guess. And thankfully this song was before Selena Gomez's voice got really really fake. It just sounds weird in this song. But overall, it's alright. Better than her newest songs, I must say.
