Gentle, mellow songs are ideal for quiet moments.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that they might have trouble recognizing this as a children's CD. Of course there's nothing inappropriate; quite to the contrary, all the messages are super-positive and inspiring. However, the tone isn't extra-silly, and this isn't an album filled with over-the-top vocals and sound effects. Instead, the music could fit right in on any adult contemporary playlist. Because of this, the release might be better appreciated by older kids, an audience that probably wouldn't typically watch the movie. Also, it's important to know that about a third of the tracks on this album are instrumentals.

Positive messages: "Hey everything is fine, just take it one step at a time, we'll find our way." Songs are nurturing and encouraging, with titles like "Let Your Troubles Roll By" and "The Friendship Song."
Positive role models: "Let us not be beaten by the hurtful things selfish people say, let us be good to one another, stay up, stick up for each other, every day, I'm imagining all the things we can accomplish if we try."  There's no room for negativity on this album as the songs teach kids to be a good friend and a caring individual.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
  • Families can talk about the difference between Curious George movies and other kid flicks. This is a super-sweet movie, but some movies might not be so nice. What does your family do about scary movies? Do you like movies that give you a scare, or does it upset you sometimes?

  • Talk about friendship. Why is it important to have good buddies that you can spend time with? Do you make time for your friends? Do you also have friends online? Why is it important to set time limits for online play? What are some other ways to have fun besides using a computer, TV, or video game?

  • What can we learn from Curious George? Is it always easy to be a good friend? How can you solve a problem if you fight with a friend? What do you like most about Curious George? Is he naturally inquisitive? Do you like to explore and try new things, too?

What's the story?

What's the story?

If you're familiar with the mellow sound of previous Curious George releases, you won't be shocked by the cool, laid-back vibe found on this latest release. CURIOUS GEORGE 2: FOLLOW THAT MONKEY is once again a soulful and spirited collection of tracks, this time featuring bluegrass rock band Carbon Leaf along with instrumentals by Heitor Pereira. There's also a single track contributed by Jackie Greene and another ("California Sun") from Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Here's one of those rare animation soundtrack albums that rises to transcend the movie it was created for. "A Life Less Ordinary" is probably the stand-out song, and although it's an older song, this LP is a nice reason to re-discover it...for Mom and Dad, that is! If there is any one criticism of the album it's that it has high expectations of its young audience. These sweet, idealistic songs just might go over little ones' heads. So it's not the soundtrack to burn off some energy dancing on the bed, but it is a beautiful collection of soft songs that might be just right for those quieter moments.

Just the sountrack to watch if your kids love curious george. My notes-not silly, puts my kids to sleep. = - ) However, it is very soothing, good messages, the whole packages. It could even be on one of my friends soundtracks, though!
