David Archuleta
What’s the Story?
In his self-titled debut album, American Idol 7 runner-up and teen scream-inducer David Archuleta comes out of the gate with 12 tracks that provide a variety of pop, R&B, blues, and of course, love ballads. The hit single "Crush" is included, as well as Archuleta's popular rendition of the Robbie Williams cover "Angels."
Is It Any Good?
He may be only 17, but the shy-smiling vocal
prodigy who drew legions of adolescent girls on Season 7 of Amercan
Idol is quickly proving he's got the chops to last in
the music business. No surprises here. Songs like "Crush" and "Touch My Hand"
are innocent trifles, while "Your Eyes Don't Lie" is a funky but
slick track with whistles and flirty vocals above
a catchy, melodic bass line. Archuleta delivers effortless, smooth vocals
with a youthful sense of longing and a shot of melancholy -- the ideal blend for
screaming, texting teens and tweens (not to mention mom and dad).
