What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is the first album from rising Disney Channel star Demi Lovato, best known for playing Mitchie in Camp Rock and making YouTube videos extraordinaire with fellow Disney darling Selena Gomez. Lovato and her music have a bit more edgy than standard Disney fare, but the subject matter is age-appropriate for most tweens -- expect lots of talk about young love and relationships and staying true to yourself while having a positive self-image.

  • There's an obvious recurring theme about being yourself and having a positive self-image. Lyrics include lines like "And I know that I'm OK, cause everyone's perfect in an unusual way ... the mirror can lie, it doesn't show you what's inside" and "I'm not a supermodel, I still eat McDonald's, baby that's just me ... I'm not gonna change."
  • Nothing alarming, but "Get Back" says "I wanna talk back and get yelled at, fight for nothing, like we used to."
  • One song, "Get Back," has the line "kiss me, like you mean it, like you miss me."

What's the story?

With a little help from good friends the Jonas Brothers, fellow Camp Rock-er Demi Lovato releases her debut album, DON'T FORGET. It's full of 11 hook-laden tracks that have hints of JoBros-brand pop-rock, with Lovato's own feminine touch.

Is it any good?

Pairing slick musical arrangements with powerful, fresh, yet sweetly endearing vocals, Lovato seems to be in a league of her own when it comes to the ever-growing teen pop-star club these days (move over, Miley!). Though she's only 16, Lovato's voice has incredible control and strength -- which balance well with her edgier, rockier sound. At the same time, she manages to pull back in just the right places to bend your ear to her delicate vocal lines.

Every song is good, with real self examination and declaration that could empower young girls to be true to themselves. "Trainwreck," "On the Line," (which she sings with the Jonases), and "Until You're Mine" will get you early, and title track "Don't Forget" is haunting and sweet.

Families can talk about the images of young stars like Lovato, Gomez, and Miley Cyrus. Do you think they're seen as positive role models, especially in the eyes of tweens and teens? Do you think they're presented accurately in the media? How do you feel about the fact that many of these young stars like to post videos and blogs on the Internet?

First Disney Singer I've Taken A Liking To
I do not love the album, but Demi Lovato is the first Disney singer I've ever taken a liking to. She has a very big voice, and her songs talk about things we all can relate to like body image and how we should all just be ourselves. 4/5 stars from me.

AWESOME
I love this!!!!!!! It's pop with an edgy feel that really gets to you! the only thing about is that she says "I'm not a supermodel, I still eat McDonald's" but the only bad thing about that is the craving for french fries you'll get!!!! hahahahahaha.. :)
