"Don't Stop Believin'" (CD single)
What’s the Story?
In their pilot episode, the cast of Fox's new TV show Glee covers several hit songs, including DON'T STOP BELIEVIN' by Journey -- the classic-rock supergroup that became one of the biggest bands of the 1980s. The show will continue its covers theme when it starts in earnest this fall, and as with "Don't Stop Believin'," those covers will become available for download through iTunes the same night each show airs.
Is It Any Good?
This show takes a satiric approach to its subject matter, so seen in that light, the cast's kitschy rendition of this classic rock song is mildly entertaining. But on its own merits, the performance is pretty mediocre, with thin vocals that could never match the power of Steve Perry's (Journey's lead singer on this track). Still, the arrangements give the song new life. Keep in mind that the song itself is fine for tweens, but the show is aimed at teens.
