What parents need to know

Parents need to know that there's very little original music here. Except for a dance-party mix of the Dora the Explorer theme song and a few lyrics in Spanish, this album offers energetic, danceable versions of songs everyone has heard a million times before: "Wheels on the Bus," "Itsy Bitsy Spider," even the "Chicken Dance."

What's the story?

Featuring a collection of old musical chestnuts and a very busy synthesizer, DORA THE EXPLORER PARTY FAVORITES is the kind of CD that toddlers will adore while it drives their parents crazy. Infused with frenetic energy, busy sound effects, and just enough Spanish vocabulary to qualify as a "fiesta," these are mostly songs you've heard a million times, arranged to guarantee giggly danceability.

Is it any good?

The highlight is 12-year-old Caitlin Sanchez, whose delivery (as the new voice of Nickelodeon's Dora) is clear, expressive, and musical. A talented young singer-actor-pianist, she has been the recipient of the Tito Puente Scholarship Award for musical excellence, and has appeared on a number of commercials and TV dramas. She takes her "Dora" role seriously here, as any trained actor would, and saves the day.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about all the ways you can make a familiar song sound different. Does adding a rock-and-roll beat and a little Spanish vocabulary to "Wheels on the Bus" make it sound like a new song, for example?

NOT acceptable, 26+
In this game it includes some good stuff but it consists mostly of sexual content (unexplainable), her mom takes crack in a ghetto and her dad buys condums, she advertises bad things (drugs, guns, more unexplainable stuff) and there is lots of murdering. For example, Dora knifes boots three consecutive times at the end of the party
