What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "Down on Me" is a pretty risque song, with several references to drinking, a little profanity, and some seriously steamy allusions to sex, like "girl, all I really want is you down on me, put it down on me." While it's not the worst among all the mature R&B and rap songs out there, the tune is still too mature for tweens and young teens.

  • Excessive drinking throughout.
  • Lots of sex under the heavy influence of alcohol.
  • Not applicable.
  • Strongly suggestive sexual content, such as: "I love the way you grind with that booty on me."

What's the story?

"DOWN ON ME" is a single by R&B newcomer Jeremih, with a very special guest -- rap mogul 50 Cent. The tune primarily talks about two things: drinking and sex. Though these two things aren't necessarily negative, the artists sing about them in excessive, irresponsible contexts; for example, "let's just go and take nine shots, we'll call it fifty ... she rock her hips, then roll her hips, then drop it down like it's nothing." Combined with some profanity, these song traits make the tune too mature for kids.

Is it any good?

Many of 50 Cent's world-famous beats are at once smooth and mellow, yet also driving and hypnotic. His influence is evident in "Down on Me," which includes a contagiously slick beat backing Jeremih's strong R&B pipes. It's too bad the Auto-Tune is used so liberally here, since it's not needed.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about how drinking to excess can lead to irresponsible behaviors, like casual sex. What are some of the dangers involved in both getting drunk and engaging in promiscuous behaviors?

  • Do songs like this make it seem cool and acceptable to act irresponsibly? Why?

this song isn't so appropiate for the young ones. mentions, "i like the way you grind with that booty on me" and "well buy another round and it's all on me" referring to buying more alcohol and drinks

Sexy Club Song NOT FOR <13!
Sexual: 90% of the song lyrics are about a woman's attractive body, and this gives impressionable tweens and children the idea that women are objects of lust. Swearing: Cuss words in the song are not abhorrent, but they are sexually suggestive and should be listened to by older children and teens. Drinking: He mentions drinking "nine shots," in order to see the women more sexually in a tipsy state. CERTAINLY inappropriate for those <13 [at least].
