What parents need to know

Parents need to know that FAMILY TIME is a super wholesome collection of songs for young kids, including a range of tunes that run the gamut from instructional ("I brush my teeth with my hands … but what I really love to do most of all with my hands is help") to inspirational ("If I had the wings of an eagle, I would fly away").

Positive messages: Includes lots of positive messages about valuing family, being happy in the moment, avoiding stress, and loving each other.
Positive role models: Though the music of Ziggy's mega-famous dad, Bob, is often associated with drug use, Ziggy has traditionally taken a cleaner approach in his songs, leaving out the substance references -- as he does in this record.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
  • Families can talk about what makes some kids want to follow the same career paths as their parents, while others choose something totally different. What might Ziggy have experienced as a child, watching his father work as a musician, that caused him to become one himself?

  • What makes reggae music so popular? How does this style sound different than other music you listen to?

What's the story?

What's the story?

FAMILY TIME is the Grammy-winning, kid-oriented album from Ziggy Marley -- son of Bob, arguably the most famous reggae artist ever. Ziggy has long created his own music, sharing his dad's flair for reggae yet leaving out many of the drug references that were contained in his father's songs. In his new album, Ziggy takes the clean content to the max, gearing all of the songs toward young children. With lots of fun, action-oriented lyrics that are bound to keep kids interested and occupied for the duration of the CD (for example:  "Ziggy says wiggle your nose … Ziggy says wiggle your toes"), Family Time is an overall great choice for young kids.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

With kids wanting their favorite albums played on endless repeat, any music that's equally appealing to parents is a particular plus. Family Time is one of those albums: though the lyrics are squarely in kids' camp, the reggae-infused tones sound like something you'd hear on any adult contemporary station. The respectable roster of guest artists -- Jack Johnson, Paul Simon, and Willie Nelson, to name a few -- adds to the adult appeal.
