What’s the Story?

Reviewed by Stephanie Bruzzese

Miley Cyrus isn't the only Hannah Montana star with a new record: Mitchel Musso, a.k.a. Oliver Oken on the enormously popular series, has a self-titled debut album. The first single, HEY, finds Musso in the same love-lorn spot as Cyrus and a lot of her young contemporaries such as Ashley Tisdale and Miranda Cosgrove -- going through the ups and downs of swearing off a former flame whom he's not quite over: "Never been lost in anyone, it's me they want / Without you I'm insane / …Don't care enough to write you a letter / Now that I'm doing better alone."

Is It Any Good?

On this single, Mitchell sticks with the tried-and-true musical formula that's worked so well for his Hannah Montana co-star and many other young singers. Featuring radio-friendly, synth-pop hooks and Mitchell's respectable vocals, the song will undoubtedly make it into lots of tween collections that also include Cyrus and the like. But aside from its fun, anthem-like title shout -- HEY! -- in the chorus, nothing about this song stands out enough for it to linger long in listeners' thoughts.
