What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Lloyd Banks exploits every rap cliche with enthusiastic mediocrity. You'll find sex, drugs, violence, and misogyny in equal proportions.

What's the story?

Every now and then an explicit rap CD comes along that is so clever and well-produced that its artistic value far outweighs any objectionable content (Ludacris, Twista, and D-12 come to mind). Unfortunately, THE HUNGER FOR MORE, the first solo effort from a celebrated sideman, is not one of these CDs. Lloyd Banks exploits every rap cliche in the book, without bringing much originality or depth to the table. You'll find all those objectionable words and concepts here: explicit, misogynist sex; violence; drug references; and nearly every obscenity in the English language.

Is it any good?

This album is a buffet loaded with objectionable content, but lacks the substance of great songwriting and genuine passion: Lloyd Banks's lyrics are mediocre and his performance sounds apathetic. Ultimately, the most offensive thing about this album is the artist's apparent lack of true artistic vision. An edited version is available, but hard to find. It's hard to imagine what the point would be, since so many of the lyrics make an effort to offend. Slick production and some stellar cameos help a little, but don't add up to enough. The Hunger for More will leave you hungry for something more substantial and satisfying.
