On I AM…SASHA FIERCE Beyonce applies her considerable talents to songs that are mostly about relationships. She sings about the glow of early love, the disappointments of love gone bad, and how much easier life would be if she were a boy. She co-wrote and co-produced every track.

With Beyonces's usual exquisite delivery and excellent production standards, I Am...Sasha Fierce sparkles with intensity while setting the star squarely in some very traditional roles. "If I Were a Boy" is a fantasy about all the things women could do if they had the same freedom as guys. It's the "if" that raises questions. Why can't women take more control over their lives and relationships?

Some songs wallow in co-dependency: "If I begged and if I cried…would it give me some light/should I wait for you to call?" But others are lovely descriptions of heart-stopping moments that promote a positive message of supporting a friend: "She was lost in so many ways/out in the darkness with no guide/ I know the cost of a losing hand."
