What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Enrique Iglesias heats up the dance floor with this sexy single featuring rapper Pitbull and a playfully suggestive dance theme. There's no profanity or graphic references to sex, but the song is definitely steamy and contains some innuendo that's hard to miss. The video features a lot of dancing and some scantily-clad ladies having a pillow fight, and the single is featured on the upcoming season soundtrack of the reality show, Jersey Shore.

Positive messages: Song implies it's OK to cheat while your significant other is away.
Positive role models: Having a good time is fine, but saying, "My girlfriend is out of town...doesn't have to know" isn't necessarily the best advice for kids.
Violence: Not applicable.
Sex: Some sexual innuendo ("Tiger Woods times Jesse James equals Pitbull all night long") and references to cheating. Playfully suggestive tone; the song is about dancing, but seems to be about quite a bit more. Video shows a couple of girls having a pillow-fight in their bras and panties.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism:
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Video shows people in a club, mainly just dancing, but some are drinking.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
  • Families can talk about music being affiliated with a popular TV show like Jersey Shore. Does it make you want to watch the TV show or buy the album? Do you think it's a good idea for musicians to mingle their work with actors or other celebrities? What about the way many musicians have guest rappers on their songs? Do you like this? Do you think it makes the song better? Why?
  • The singer implies cheating because his "girlfriend's on vacation and your boyfriend's out of town." Do you think it's OK for singers to talk about this kind of behavior, even if it's playful or on the dance floor? Do you hear other lyrics in this song that could imply sexual behavior?

What's the story?

What's the story?
From his upcoming first bilingual album, Euphoria, Spanish-pop heir Enrique Iglesias sexes up the dance scene with the lead single, "I LIKE IT," featuring rapper Pitbull. Along with back tracks of Lionel Richie's "All Night Long," the song is pop-synth heavy and playfully suggestive about what can happen on the dance floor when significant others are away. Although not graphic, the lyrics are too sexy for younger kids.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

"I Like It" is a sizzling song for hot summer nights (for the mature crowd, that is!) The lyrics are suggestive and playful, with an infectious beat that will keep you shouting -- yeah, you guessed it -- "Baby, I like it!" Iglesias's vocals soar to the heights of Michael Jackson in places, and the ever-cool Pitbull brings just the right amount of raw edge to keep the single from being too cheesy. There are two videos for the single, with one featuring the bronzed, badda-bing clan of Jersey Shore.

The entire song is about sex and two characters committing adultery. Since sex is described in an almost violent manner, i described it in this way. Love the beat, lyrics are suggestive. PITBULL IS A HORRIBLE ROLE MODEL.

Great
It's a great song! If u don't base it on the viedo it's a spirit lifting song about dancing and having fun. People who go all crazy about oh it's not approite chill. They play it at my school dances with 5 and 6 grade there. It's a fun catchy dance song.

Hidden Message?
The theme of the song is about a man and woman hooking up while their significant others are away and don't know about it. Bad examples.

Great song--messaging about cheating while the girlfriend is away & her bf doesn't have to know is the biggest negative message.

im in the club yo
Oh, a song about dancing and being in the club? That's something new, I never hear anything like that on the radio. Nope. Every other song doesn't sound like this at all.

Very catchy but it doesn't have a good message
I Like It is a fun dance-pop song from Enrique Iglesias. It samples the chorus of You Keep Me Hanging On by The Supremes and creates an infectious techno beat out of it that's played for the entirety of the song. The only bad thing about it is the lyrics glorify adultery. But it's a catchy enough song that the beat is what really sticks out, not the lyrics.

I don't think the sexual innuendos are appropriate for little kids.

Not very good, it would be better if the artists were reversed.
Thankyou Pitbull you rock and i hope your reading this. As if. But anyway, when i had it i would just fast forward to pitbulls part. He saves it.

As a matter of fact, "I dont like it"
This is a dumb song. Pitbull is in it, and he actually does decent, but otherwise it would be one star. Pitbull sort of saved the song, but not enough. If Enrique was the one being featured, this would be 4 or 5 stars.

Amazing song, but "Enrique' and "Escape" were better!
Okay, I am admittedly the biggest fan of Enrique Iglesias. I am on his website every day, and have downloaded every track he has ever released, and I squeal when I hear him on the radio! Just kidding..... I have to say, though, I was a tad disappointed with this particular song. He began his singing career as a hard-core-latin singer, only in Spanish. (check out para Que La Vida!) His reputation was one of being a sexy boy-next-door type, with steamy lyrics but nothing overly graphic. Though he has now officially beat both MJ and Prince for number of dance-floor hits (whoohoo!), they were never "goin-out-to-the-club" songs. When you hear this song, however, you are shocked with the different-ness of it!!! It's a club track, for crying out loud! I can (slightly) hear a latin undertone, but that's about it. Don't get me wrong, its a great fun dance song, and if it played at a school dance, I would bust a move! I'm just saying I miss the old Enrique, the corny (With a capital C!) latin dude singing about how "I can be your hero baby!!" (Yes, this is the guy who sings the early 2000's hit Hero) My point exactly. So, enough of that. The content, like I mentioned before, gets pretty steamy at certain points, with the lines mentioned above. Again, Enrique's always been known for cheesy, steamy lines, but nothing like this! Pure infidelity!!! I was pretty surprised with it! Bottom Line: While this is a good song, check out some of his older stuff. His best albums were "Enrique", "Escape", and "Insomniac."

Dance Pop Single with a Good Beat is Fun to Listen to but is iffy..
This song is perfectly dancy and fun, but then we get into the content. Iglesias talks about his girlfriend being "out of town and doesn't have to know" (like mentioned above) and it is obvious that he is sending a negative message. Pitbull, as always, enters some sexual innuendo and drops Tiger Woods's name...The music video is somehow inappropriate when it comes to drinking, smoking, and sexual content. When you listen to the song, Iglesias's voice is very obvious and you can tell exactly what he is saying, much the opposite with Pitbull so the sexuality can be hidden in the song, but not in the video. There are girls in bras and panties and many alcohol references. The song is ok for about 8+ but the video I would wait until 12+ or maybe even later..especially if the child isn't mature.
