What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this single from country teen sensation Taylor Swift is playing on heavy rotation on Radio Disney. It's an innocent song about love with nothing to worry about for tweens and teens. The music video is just as harmless with shots of live concert footage and Taylor hamming it up for the camera.

  • Sweet and innocent: "Everything I need is right here by my side/And I know everything about you/I don't wanna live without you" and "When I'm with anybody else, it's so hard to be myself/Only you can tell."

What's the story?

"I'M ONLY ME WHEN I'M WITH YOU" is a fusion track of pop and country about feeling completely comfortable with someone. The lyrics never stray off course for tween ears, and the upbeat nature makes you want to dance along.

Is it any good?

Taylor Swift gives off a welcoming "girl-next-door" vibe and "I'm Only Me When I'm with You" is an extension of her wholesome nature. With lines like "Through it all nobody gets me like you do/And you know everything about me/You say that you can't live without me," this single echoes the drama and finality of "love" for any tween or teen, yet remains perfectly appropriate for them to hear. The song is infectious, if a bit more pop-y than country, and will have kids wishing they could be pals with Taylor.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about country stars going mainstream. What is it about Taylor Swift that makes her appealing, even if you're not a huge country fan? Families can also talk about how -- and if -- her young age is helping her sell songs and albums.

Catchy single
It's a nice song. Pretty catchy. Looking at the title, you can tell what the song's about. I think all TS songs are for kids, but some of them have more mature lyrics; this single is an exception.

TAYLOR SWIFT IS AN AWESOME ROLE MODEL
Once again, please don't listen to Common Sense Parent. This track is squeaky-clean, and kids will love this catchy tune. Buy this CD!!!

Explicit single not for kids
Taylor Swift's single is not for children. The messages presented in the single "I'm Only Me When I'm With You" are very sexual and not age-appropiate. This explicit single is for adults only. Taylor Swift is a bad role model for teens and tweens.
