What parents need to know

Parents need to know that “It Girl” doesn’t feature mature content beyond one reference to being “drunk” on love, and a tongue-in-cheek comparison of romantic commitments to jail time. Also, "shh" is used instead of the word "s--t." Primarily a tune about a guy who finally finds the right girl to love, the song is an acceptable choice for older tweens and teens.

  • Having love in your life is a good thing.
  • The singer seems devoted to the girl he loves.
  • Lightheartedly compares making a romantic commitment to jail time: “Give me 25 to life.”
  • A couple mildly sexy references like “if I get your body close, not letting go.”

What's the story?

Young R&B singer Jason Derulo talks about finding The One in “IT GIRL,” the second single from his album Future History. The tune is filled with lots of love-laced lyrics that describe his feelings for a special girl who has stolen his heart.

Is it any good?

In this tune, Derulo demonstrates that he can keep up with the best of the R&B pack, packing in a solid vocal performance. A beat based on whistling and clapping makes this cute, upbeat track all the more appealing.
