What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "It Will Rain," the first single from the new The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 soundtrack, is a fairly clean single, with no profanity or extremely mature content. That said, the song includes a few edgy lyrics about needing morphine to dull the pain of a failed relationship, as well as a figurative reference to picking up the broken pieces of a relationship until you "bleed." Overall, though, the tune is fine for fans of the movie franchise.

  • The song is about having a hard time letting go of someone; the mood is very brooding and melodramatic and could encourage angsty rumination.
  • There's a line about needing painkillers to ease the heartache of a breakup.
  • One reference to hurting yourself for love: "I'll pick up these broken pieces 'til I'm bleeding if that'll make it right."
  • Not applicable.

What's the story?

"IT WILL RAIN" is the first single from the soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1. The ballad was written by The Smeezingtons -- a songwriting trio consisting of hot pop/R&B singing star Bruno Mars, Philip Lawrence, and Ari Levine -- and has a brooding, moody tone. It's about a man who's despondent at the thought of losing his lover.

Is it any good?

Mars is an interesting choice for this soundtrack: Known for his more mass-appeal, radio-friendly pop hits, his style is a departure from the previous Twilight soundtracks, which have included darker indie-rock sounds. Mars tries to fit this more melodramatic mold with his mopey ballad, but the end result ends up droning on rather than hitting home.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about why the Twilight producers would choose Bruno Mars to contribute a song to this soundtrack. The soundtracks for previous Twilight movies have featured indie-focused artists like Vampire Weekend and Sia. Does Mars' pop/R&B style fit with the Twilight motif? Why or why not?

  • Name some other acts you'd like to hear on the Breaking Dawn soundtrack. How do they fit the movie's mood and story?

Great, clean, but dont agree with the review
This album is great! I don't agree with the part about the song causing "angsty ruminition" Do all songs have to be cheerful and positive??? I like hhappy songs, and I also like sad songs. Hearing a sad song won't make a teen kill themselves, but the mood of the song is gloomy and romantic so it is supposed to strike a sad emotion to you!

The point of this song is a young man trying so hard to make somthing of himself and please the love of his lifes parents so they accept him! Beautiful song with lyrics that truly come from the heart. Bruno Mars has a gorgeous voice too so check him out!

Great for tweens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the soundtrack to Breaking Dawn Part 1 but there is a reference to "morphine" and I does mention "I'll pick up these broken pieces until I'm bleeding If that'll make it right" but it means he loves her so much the he will do anything for her.

This Review Hit It-but One More Thing...
this is one of my favorite songs. this review pretty much hit it, except they talk about being a "troublesome guy" so it sort of has a bad messge, since the parents don't like the guy in this song, so it gives a bad message to girls maybe, but otherwise, besides the drug thing, it's perfectly fine, and a great song!

Hold Up the Rain
I think it's a great song overall. It's a heart-wrenching story/song about what would happen if he lost a person that he loved very much. It spoke to me a lot, and I love this song. Not only is it catchy and rhythmic, it also has a great message.

I love Brono Mars!
This is kind of a sad song. Brono is a good role model. There is no bad stuff in this song. I think this is his best song!
