Parents need to know that "It Will Rain," the first single from the new The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 soundtrack, is a fairly clean single, with no profanity or extremely mature content. That said, the song includes a few edgy lyrics about needing morphine to dull the pain of a failed relationship, as well as a figurative reference to picking up the broken pieces of a relationship until you "bleed." Overall, though, the tune is fine for fans of the movie franchise.
"IT WILL RAIN" is the first single from the soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1. The ballad was written by The Smeezingtons -- a songwriting trio consisting of hot pop/R&B singing star Bruno Mars, Philip Lawrence, and Ari Levine -- and has a brooding, moody tone. It's about a man who's despondent at the thought of losing his lover.
Mars is an interesting choice for this soundtrack: Known for his more mass-appeal, radio-friendly pop hits, his style is a departure from the previous Twilight soundtracks, which have included darker indie-rock sounds. Mars tries to fit this more melodramatic mold with his mopey ballad, but the end result ends up droning on rather than hitting home.
Families can talk about why the Twilight producers would choose Bruno Mars to contribute a song to this soundtrack. The soundtracks for previous Twilight movies have featured indie-focused artists like Vampire Weekend and Sia. Does Mars' pop/R&B style fit with the Twilight motif? Why or why not?
Name some other acts you'd like to hear on the Breaking Dawn soundtrack. How do they fit the movie's mood and story?
