Parents need to know that they might actually like this song as much as their tweens will. This time around, Miley-as-Hannah abandons message-heavy lyrics and sings about having fun -- and maybe about wanting a crush to stick around. Either way, there's nothing objectionable here.
Hot on the heels of the Hannah Montana Season 3 premiere, IT'S ALL RIGHT HERE debuted on Radio Disney on Nov. 7. One of 10 songs that Miley Cyrus will perform on the series as her rock star alter-ego, rumor has it that the song will appear on the third season's soundtrack later this year. The song is basically about having fun: "Check out the scenery, we won the lottery," Hannah urges a friend (or
maybe a crush?) to stick around and soak up the good life -- and the
fun times ahead.
While the song isn't a huge departure from her earlier efforts, it sounds like Hannah has grown up a bit. Cyrus has graduated from sugary synth to bubblegum pop-punk, and her country twang is more pronounced. Lyrically, she (or rather, her songwriters) doesn't have much to say about popular Hannah topics like self-esteem -- "It's All Right Here" is more about celebrating the here and now and having fun. (Good, clean fun, of course.)
Families can talk about why Hannah Montana -- both the character and the show -- is so popular. What's appealing about having an alter ego? Who you do relate to more, Hannah or Miley? Why? Families of older tweens can also discuss Cyrus' squeaky-clean TV persona and whether recent media coverage has changed that image.
