What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this album will mesmerize kids and grownups with its lyrical rendition of everyday moments. This soundtrack to childhood celebrates the life of a kid and will bring back happy memories to adults.

  • This is a musical walk down memory lane with fun, positive songs about childhood.

What's the story?

Indie-rock veteran Justin Roberts hits it out of the park with his seventh album, JUNGLE GYM, a collection of 12 tracks that celebrates the magic, fun, and excitement of childhood. From sleepovers and trick-or-treating, to snow days and schoolyard games, parents will smile at the memories and images these songs conjure up, and their kiddos will rock out to kid-perfect lyrics and folk-rock sounds that echo Buddy Holly, Elvis Costello, and Paul McCartney. (Not that they'll know who these people are -- but you will.)

Is it any good?

When you listen to Jungle Gym, you'll be flooded with images from the everyday magical moments of your childhood -- snow days, gym parachutes, playing duck-duck-goose, signing a friend's cast, popcorn at a sleepover, or dumping Halloween candy on the coffee table. Kids will love the upbeat sounds created by horns, guitars, drums, and piano, and the funny topics that they'll instantly relate to. Roberts' sweet lyricism, slightly imperfect vocals, and intuitive understanding of what's in a child's mind make Jungle Gym a sweet treat for the whole family.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about how these songs celebrate imagination. How do you use your imagination at home? At school? What do you like to pretend?

  • The song "Never Getting Lost" talks about how easily you could get separated from your mom or dad if you aren't careful. Have you ever gotten lost? What should you do if you ever get separated from your parents in a public place?
