What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is an all-star charity single sung by 15 of pop music's reigning divas, released to promote awareness and funds for cancer research. It's a great cause, and a great generic song to inspire anyone battling life's low-blows.

  • All about not giving up and finding a way to "stand up" even through life's hardest times ("The heart is stronger than you think,/it's like it can go through anything/and even when you think it can't it finds a way to still push on though" and "If you fall dust it off, don't let up/don't you know you can go on, be your own miracle").

What's the story?

"JUST STAND UP" is an all-star charity single recorded by 15 of today's most well-known female singers in for the "Stand Up To Cancer" telethon. The song, produced by Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and L.A. Reid, features several powerhouse singers including Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Fergie, Leona Lewis, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, Rihanna, Melissa Etheridge, Miley Cyrus, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, and LeAnn Rimes.

Is it any good?

You might think bringing 15 pop divas to one song is a recipe for disaster, but on this inspirational collaboration, they all manage to give just enough of their hearts and voices. Beyonce and Carrie Underwood start with solos, and the rest belt in and out in turn. Mary J. Blige stands out every time she sings, and each performer adds her own shine to a sparkler of a song -- all about finding a way to "stand up" and stay strong no matter what.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the involvement of celebrities in charitable causes such as this. Do you think having big names tied to a cause can help in a big way? Do you think celebrities do enough to help? Should they be expected to?

My honest opinion
I want to say well done and congratulations on the song, to Mariah Carey, Beyonce Knowles, Keyshia Cole,Miley Cyrus, Mary J. Blige, Rihannah, Carrie Underwood, Fergie, Cheryl Crow, Leona Lewis, Natasha Bedingfield, Nicole Scherzinger, Melissa Etheridge, Leanne Rhymes, Ashanti and Ciara. I loved this song. It was writen and performed about standing up to cancer, but it can be about standing up to anything you feel worried or anxious about at the time. All of the performers sing with such sole, charisma and passion, that it gives you goosebumps. I actually cried the first time I heard it, because I find a relationship to the song. It feels good to finally hear a song that isnt about breaking up, making up or loving someone. This song is raising awareness to everyone about cancer, and giving hope to the people who have it. These singers are great role models for children, and these singers should be very, very proud and honoured to be able to sing this song. Well done guys! Chloe Thomson, Leyland
