Kids In America (by American Juniors, Pop)

common sense media says

Talented kids sing with surprising presence.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that most of the tracks are squeaky clean, but the opening and closing songs contain some sexual innuendo.

Positive messages: What's not to like about ten kids with humongous talent?
Violence: The songs do not involve violent themes.
Sex: With the exception of the lead and closing tracks, all songs are squeaky clean. But those tracks are mildly objectionable, with phrases like, "Hold on! Hold on! Hold on to my lovin'!/ I've been savin' every little bit of my love for you/ I've been dreamin' just to get by/ It's so exciting, fantasisin.'" and, "Come closer, honey that's better./ Got to get a brand new experience./ Feeling right. Oh don't try to stop baby. Hold me tight."
Language: There is no objectionable language.
Consumerism: There are no tie-ins to brand names, although this CD is an ad for the TV show that is no longer on the air.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Alcohol and drugs are not mentioned.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about the prospects for these young singers. What do you think lies ahead for them? Will they achieve stardom, or go back to their homework, sports teams, and friends? What does it mean to be an "American Idol"?

What's the story?

What's the story?

If anyone doubts the gifts of the kids featured on AMERICAN JUNIORS, this album convincingly presents their talents full strength.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Morgan Burke belts out "Build Me Up Buttercup" like a veteran, Chauncey Matthews is sweetly tremulous in "A Whole New World," and A.J. Melendez displays impressive range and expression in "I'll Be There."

But the album could have chosen its lead and closing tracks with more sensitivity. For example, in this clean-as-a-whistle album, it grates to hear the finalists join voices in "One Step Closer," singing, "Hold on! Hold on! Hold on to my lovin'!/ I've been savin' every little bit of my love for you/ I've been dreamin' just to get by/ It's so exciting, fantasizin'." And why close the album with "Kids In America," when it has lyrics like, "Kind hearts don't make a new story./ Kind hearts don't grab any glory./ …Come closer, honey that's better./ Got to get a brand new experience./ Feeling right. Oh don't try to stop baby. Hold me tight."

I wouldn't buy this. My friends bought it, and all I remember was people my age with extremely high voices singing about mature subjects. They are very talented, but they're still kids. And the actual music in this CD is horrible.

great kids
I watched the whole series. The talent and heart of these kids was uplifting. Many times their performances brought tears of joy to my old eyes and that of my wife, not to mention the goose-bumps. I hope they have safe and fulfilling lives in entertainment, if that's what they want in life.

AMERICAN JUNIORS ROCK!!!!!!!!
i loved the american juniors cd!! but after all, i was in love with the show which aired summer 2003! even if you weren't a big fan of the show, or didn't watch it, this cd is definitely worth buying!!!! The kids that sing on this cd are amazing! Tori Thompson belts out a wonderful, unique version of LET ER'RIP. Her sister Taylor does a great rendition of PROUD MARY. Jordan Mccoy sings I LOVE YOU MORE TODAY THAN YESTERDAY the best it could be sung!! Danielle White also does AMAZING on singing COLORS OF THE WIND. There's also 2 songs all the top 10 do together, KIDS IN AMERICA and ONE STEP CLOSER! The whole CD is awesome, but those are just a few of my favorites!!! If you don't have the CD yet, and are thinking about buying it, DO IT NOW!!! It's a great way to spend your money!! And be sure to buy the new AMERICAN JUNIORS GROUP album that came out in stores OCTOBER 26,2004!!! See Ya!

KIDS IN AMERCA
American Juniors are annoying and pointless. Parent Preview: Sexual Content: Since this is for four year olds, this is suggestive: 'Hold me tight baby, don't think you're stoppin" etc. Commercialism: A album for parents who think the kids are wonderful and who like the show.

An independent voice for families
