"Kiss Me Thru the Phone" (CD single) (by Soulja Boy, Hip-hop)

common sense media says

R&B-style hip-hop love song is safe but not sophisticated.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is an R&B-inflected hip-hop love song whose lyrics never get steamier than the sincere request of a lovesick protagonist for his girlfriend to "kiss me through the phone. And, in a departure from his previous offerings, this one is pretty clean.

Positive messages: Not applicable.
Violence: Not applicable.
Sex: At one point, Soulja Boy reminisces about actual physical contact, but it's not that graphic: "Kissing you in public / Thinking nothing of it."
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

What's the story?

What's the story?
Remember "867-5309/Jenny" from Tommy Tutone? Or Blondie's "Call Me?" In many ways, Soulja Boy's single KISS ME THRU THE PHONE off his album iSouljaboyTellem is the modern rendition of a million love songs that found the phone to be a useful metaphor for longing. "Girl you know I miss you / I just wanna kiss you" sings Soulja Boy, sounding like any guy who misses his girlfriend. Adding a current technological twist, he sings: "Text me, call me, I need you in my life, yeah."

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

While much of his material is not for kids, "Kiss Me Thru the Phone" is a clean choice for teens who want at least one Soulja Boy song in their playlist. The song comes off like puppy love.

If there's any cause for concern, it's that Soulja Boy's melodies and rhymes lack the sophistication of masters like Kanye West. When he sings, "I'll see you later on / Kiss me through the phone / See you when I get home" you can almost understand why Soulja Boy has been lambasted by prominent rapper Ice T for "killing hip-hop." Don't worry if your teens want to listen to this one, but there are better choices.

COOL SONG
This is a very clean rap song.Nothing at all wrong with this song. The song does say "sexy" and it is talking about kissing but no bad words. One of my fav songs of Soulja Boy.

Good, clean, rap song.
This is an awesome song. So clean, and so good. I think its appropriate for anyone 13 and up. The only sexual behavior in the song is kissing, and one use of the actual word sexy. Thats it.

This song has absolutley nothing wrong, and I really enjoy listening to this song. I say ages 12 and up because of one use of the word sexy, which isn't really bad but I know some people(like my mom) who wouldn't really like you listening to it. =] But I love this song. 2 Thumbs up.

Catchy Cluster of Shallow Love Over the Phone
Soulja Boy is always shallow and sexual, but this song is arguably his cleanest work and features only a catchy jingle about flirting over the phone. If your child feels awkward around attractive people and is not ready for sexual feelings, kissing, or other forms of relations, then I recommend saving this song for the mid-to-late teen years. If not, then let your child enjoy the song, as soon as they enter their teen years! =)

There is nothing wrong with this song, it is very clean. Also, there's nothing wrong with Soulja Boy saying, "Kissin' you in public/ Thinkin' nothin' of it" because some Disney shows that younger kids watch have in people in relationships. P.S. I <3 this song!
