What parents need to know

Parents need to know that One Direction has started to grow up, and they get a little racy on this single, adding more sexual innuendo like "If you just wanna take me home, let me say yeah." The video also features some bare chests and over-the-top nipple tweaking between bandmates. There's no iffy language, violence, or references to drugs and alcohol. The overall goofy, upbeat, and positive tone keeps it OK for older tweens and up.

  • The song contains some innuendo and treats girls as sexual objects in a minor way: "I just wanna show you off to all of my friends, makin' them drool down their chinny chin chins." But overall it's a sweet song about young love.
  • Even with the sexual innuendo, One Direction still stays fairly clean and positive.
  • Not applicable.
  • Some innuendo, with talk about "making a move," kissing, touching, and asking a girl if she wants to "take me home." The video also shows the boys without shirts and nipple tweaking.

What's the story?

This unstoppable boy band from England and Ireland proves on their sophomore album that they still have what it takes. The single "KISS YOU" sticks with the ever-successful theme of young love, and the goofy video gives some clever nods to retro music and movies.

Is it any good?

While you're not really getting anything on "Kiss You" that you didn't get on the singles from Up All Night, it's still everything you want a pop song to be -- super catchy, well produced, and fun. The surf-beat guitars, compelling rhythm of the chorus, and sweet lyrics will have tweens and teens swooning. And parents will appreciate the Elvis and Beatles references in the hilarious music video.

Explore, discuss, enjoy

  • Families can talk about how One Direction is changing over time. Do you think it's OK for the bands' lyrics to get more sexually suggestive as the band members get older?

  • Who do you think the band's target audience is? Do you think this single is intended for that audience?

  • Talk about the music video. Do you think it successfully reflects the song? What '50s and '60s movies are referenced in it?

"And if you-uuu...you want me too-oo..." argh, so catchy! :D
It's SOO infectious! Some innuendo: "Every time we, to-u-uch, you get this kind of ru-u-ush/baby say yeah-eah-eah," "If you don't wanna take it slow, and you just wanna take me home/baby say yeah-eah-eah, yeah-rah/And let me kiss you".

Catchy song with some innuendo
This song is insanely catchy. I really like it, but it may get on your nerves due to it's catchiness. Anyway, this song is okay for kids. There's minor innuendo, but I don't think they'll get it. Sex: One mention of "Make a move" and the line, "If you don't wanna take it slow/and you just wanna take me home/baby say yeah-yeah/)

GO TEAM 1D
I love One Direction and I know that when they say "If you don't want to take it slow/ and you just want to take me home/say yeah" only means that they'll start a relationship as more than friends. Anyways, kids won't even realize and think about those lyrics, they'll be too busy jumping on their bed singing it!
