What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this wonderful CD offers the best kind of kids' music there is; it's intelligent yet accessible to very young children, complex enough to appeal to parents and older siblings, and never talks down or gets too teacher-y. There is no objectionable content.

  • Respectful of children's intelligence with clever lyrics, excellent musicianship, and inclusive non-preachy humor.

What's the story?

It's always a pleasure to hear children's music that's produced with the same standards of excellence applied to music for adults, and Medeski Martin & Wood's first children's CD, LET'S GO EVERYWHERE, is a fine example and a winner in every way. The "message" songs are delivered without a trace of preachiness, and the interplay of adult and children's vocals never sounds forced. Highlights are "Pirates Don't Take Baths" ("She said, my dear, you stink/and then she plopped me in the sink") and "Let's Go Everywhere," a song that lists hundreds of destinations, both exotic and familiar.

Is it any good?

Funny, intelligent lyrics are accompanied by witty instrumental tracks -- all exquisitely produced. Actually, there isn't a clunker in the bunch. Medeski Martin & Wood have raised the children's-music bar for years to come.
