Lullaby
What’s the Story?
From her recent stint on Dancing with the Stars to her new album LULLABY, country-esque crooner Jewel has certainly run the creativity gamut as of late. The record is a compilation of traditional lullabies (and lullaby-like) songs -- such as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" -- and Jewel's own new tunes, most of which are very, very sweet love songs, but love songs nevertheless. That said, none of the lyrics, new or old, contain anything offensive, instead painting largely rosy pictures of peace and love.
Is It Any Good?
Jewel's vocals have always had a simple yet lovely quality that shows through in these songs. She uses her pipes to turn every track on this album into something soothing enough to put a tired soul to sleep. Highlights include her own song "Raven," which pairs her pure vocals with painfully beautiful music and endearing lyrics ("Let's dream, together, you and I / Oh, close your eyes, we will fly / Dreaming, together, you and I"), and her contemporary treatment of the classic "Brahm's Lullaby."
