The Massacre (by 50 Cent, Rap)

common sense media says

Testosterone poisoning disguised as music.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the strong language, violent imagery, and super-consistent sexism might make this sometimes interesting album uncomfortable for them. It's really not a good choice for kids, and we don't recommend it for anyone under 17. Also, note that the edited version had to be SO edited that is sounds like nonsense -- it's not worth buying.

Positive messages: Sexist and misogynistic, with an underlying "bonus" message that problems can only be solved with violence.
Violence: Very violent, including gun photos and sound effects.
Sex: Very explicit.
Language: As strong as it gets.
Consumerism: An insert advertises Reeboks and includes a discount card.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Several explicit references to drugs and drug users.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about why they think 50 Cent feels he needs to use violence, sex, and profanity to get his point across, if their teens end up listening anyway. It might be worth having a conversation about what exactly they like about this music, and what is the difference between the man 50 Cent and the myth he is trying to build?

What's the story?

What's the story?
Remove the sleeve of the deluxe edition of 50 Cent's THE MASSACRE, and you'll see a photo of the artist aiming a gun at the camera, surrounded by a display of firearms of all kinds. The booklet in the edited version instead includes a photo of the artist pouring water into the cleavage of a scantily clad woman. No surprise, then, when you hear the album, which begins with a girl's voice sighing over a valentine, followed by blasts of gunfire. With an intensity so overdone that it would seem like self-parody if his lyrics weren't so deadly serious, 50 Cent weakens the power of his talent by indulging in this fierce and fatal machismo throughout the CD.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Strong language and constant references to guns, violence, drugs, and explicit sex with objectified women combined with monotonous backing tracks and monotone delivery make The Massacre a hard album for any parent to love. It's too bad, because 50 Cent is a good songwriter. The instrumental tracks are beautifully produced and sometimes even mesmerizing; the lyrics are the work of an obviously intelligent, hard-working man. But they are also unrelentingly nasty, especially if you're female, and the lyrics send a loud-and-clear message that problems are best solved with violence. There isn't a young person in the world who really needs to hear this CD.

50 Cent is trash...
...but we all knew that already. The music has already corrupted my kid brother's mind, and I can't avoid this filth anywhere I go. Stay away if you possibly can.

50 needs to clean his act up
It was better that his 1st, but this was more violent, more racist, and more sexual. He repeativly uses the word n**ga. Not recommending to younger audiences.

The best!
I love this cd. I think 5o cent did a wonderful job on it. But some ages should not listen to it.

excellent
50 Cent releases a top album, that is worth buying. With amazingly original beats, and great backup singers 50 Cent originates an amazing album which is worth buying. As you can see in other reviews this cd is aviliable with exclipict lyrics and without. The songs arent as amazing because the song isn't the song anymore, but it still has a great beat. May not be the best the message, but it keeps it real.

50 did it again.
50 is a great rapper, and I am glad that Emeniem picked this guy up. He has great punch lines in his music, and the beat can't be beat. Although his Get Rich or Die Trying is better, I think this CD is worth listening to, especially if you love rap.

Real Inapropriate
50 cent is one of my favorite artist, but everything is really bad with his music. If you want to hear anything aprioriate from him, get hate it or love it, and probaly clean.

Music these days...
I must admit that I like this CD, just because of the beats. But what is up with the lyrics? There's four-letter words and sexual content EVERYWHERE on this CD! You don't want your kids acting or talking like 50 Cent. If you want some good rap, go get a Will Smith CD.

I WAS KINDA SPOOKED AT FIRST...
When I first heard it, there were so many pauses where words had been bleeped out. The beat is excellent, but the lyrics were WAY too sexual.
