What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this short and sweet four-song collection (one is duplicated in Spanish) from a reinvented boy band is innocent (I-like-you-I-hope-you-like-me themes) and perfectly fine for tweens. The CD is available only at Target, but you can find the singles online. A full-length album from Menudo will also be released.

  • Innocent enough; "When I think about us making out girl" is as bad as it gets.

What's the story?

The original Menudo had the appeal of other boy bands of the '90s, and this new, made-by-MTV version (Making Menudo) does a pretty good job delivering their five-part harmonies that make these boy bands so popular. This four-song collection shares the title of its first single, MORE THAN WORDS, which has all the qualities of a radio-friendly single. It will no doubt have tween girls turning up the volume -- and downloading photos of Jose (15), Chris (15), Emmanuel (16), Monti (18), and Carlos (18).

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the branding of Menudo. Why are they launching a new group with the same name that was popular 20 years ago? What was the group like then? How is it different now?
