"In My Head" (CD single) (by Jason Derulo, R&B)

common sense media says

R&B song isn't graphic, but still too steamy for tweens.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that although there's nothing too extreme in the way of language or descriptions here, the song does allude to a sexual encounter between two people who meet at a club. Its worst lyrics include "I see you all over me … you fulfill my fantasy … you'll be screaming out … get down to business and skip foreplay."

Positive messages: Though there's no explicitly irresponsible behavior in this song, it describes a guy who asks a girl to leave a club with him so he can "show [her] the ropes" in the bedroom -- sounding an awful lot like a one-night stand.
Positive role models: Haitian-born Derulo has donated the proceeds from a number of his concerts to the country since its massive earthquake.
Violence: Not applicable.
Sex: Nothing too graphic, but there's no mistaking the sexual meaning in some lines. For example, "In my head, I see you all over me ... you fulfill my fantasy ... you'll be screaming ohhhh ... in my head, it's going down."
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
  • Families can talk about how well-known musicians can help when it comes to hard times like the Haitian earthquake.
  • In the event of a disaster like the one in Haiti, should artists donate their time, their money, or both? What can star-power do to convince others that they should get involved, too?

What's the story?

What's the story?
IN MY HEAD is the second single from Jason Derulo, protégé of American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi. Along with his debut song, "Whatcha Say," the new track is slated to appear on Derulo's first full-length album later this year. As in his earlier single, romance is once again on the table in this tune -- only this time, things are heating up instead of cooling off. After spotting a hot girl on the dance floor, Derulo dreams up a scenario in his mind where he gives the girl some lessons in love. While Derulo's fantasy is fairly tame, with the most graphic lines being "I see you all over me … you'll be screaming out … get down to business and skip foreplay," its obvious allusions to sex are too mature for the youngest ears.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

It's hard not to compare Jason Derulo to Chris Brown, the other young male R&B singer on the scene with a similar look and sound. Though Derulo certainly scores more points on a personal level (Brown recently attacked his former girlfriend and fellow singer Rihanna), his skills aren't quite on a par with Brown's. Song for song, Derulo's somewhat mundane "In My Head" is less creative than tracks like "Wait" and "I Can Transform Ya" off Brown's recent record, Graffiti. Whether Derulo's full-length CD includes more appealing tunes remains to be seen.

What's Going On In My Head? Find Out Here.
I think it's good for 11+. I listen to the song, and I think it's a little disgusting in the chorus. I just like the beat. Boy, my friend was right. It's utterly bad. I like the beat, but don't buy this for kids 9-. Too sexual. I can't handle the chorus too much, but the beat is something that just might brighten up your day.

i think its a good song but at least 13 it talks about a one night stand plus the really only bad thing is 'in my head i see you all over me' i bought the song because it has a good beat and because i think im old enough to know the meaning and to know what is okay for my age. but it should not be for anyone under 13 but anyone 14 and up is fine
