What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Switchfoot is a Christian rock band, though one that is more adept at viable rock crossover than most.

  • The gently Christian message is expressed in such mild and universal language, it shouldn't be a problem for non-Christian families.
  • Nothing worrisome.
  • Not an issue.

What's the story?

If you're looking for straight-up, well-played rock & roll with a mildly Christian message, then Switchfoot is the band for you. NOTHING IS SOUND, a strong follow-up to The Beautiful Letdown, is living proof that it's possible to produce viable rock & roll with a squeaky clean, gently spiritual message. The band's message of hope, grace, and redemption is delivered via expressive, raspy lead vocals by frontman Jon Foreman and exceptional drumming by Chad Butler, along with some well-executed guitar work and intriguing instrumental arrangements. The lyrics skillfully walk a tough line -- very few specifically religious references are made, yet Switchfoot manages to communicate their message effectively to both believers and nonbelievers.

Is it any good?

Appealing and accessible, the songs are diverse and well written, if just a bit cloying. The performances, both vocal and instrumental, are nothing short of excellent. Creative arrangements veer away from the predictable at the last possible second; the lyrics could compete in any high school honors poetry contest -- or church youth group. Switchfoot really does seem to try to deliver something for everyone, and mostly succeeds.

The last one didn't let me down, even beautifully. This one won't either.
When I look at this CD I can see myself. Swithfoot makes sound seem like... nothing. In another christian rock hit. I am proud of being a christian once more. May Switchfoot make as many hits as there is stars.

Epic! Ages 8 and up!
I love Switchfoot. There needs to be more christian bands like them! I mostly listen to christian music, they are one of my favorites, Sanctus Real being my top favorite. If you like the lead singer's voice, his name is Jon Foreman. You would love his EP Solo Album is called Limbs and Branches. My boyfriend gave me the album to borrow, I didnt want to give it back thats how good it was!
