Parents need to know that although the soundtrack takes a cue from the VeggieTales movie, with lots of Pirate-themed instrumentals and some silly songs, there are few songs on the album that will inspire kids to "do something." The brand has a Christian bent, but religion only appears in the bonus track of the soundtrack (the song talks about asking for God's forgiveness). Other themes include overcoming fear, doing the right thing, and carpe diem.
Positive messages:Several songs discuss doing the right thing, having courage, and trying new things. ("The future's ours if we just grab it..It's only fear that will prevent us…All that we need is deep within us"). The bonus track, "Second Chances," is a Christian-themed gospel and asks for God's forgiveness ("You're feelin' pretty blue/You didn't do what God requested...You ran from God this morning and you're whale chow tonight!/but hold up!...See we're here to tell you about the forgiveness that you can get!").
Violence:Only one song with some questionable lyrics: "Whack your shipmate in the eye!/yank his hair and break his nose...Swing your shipmate promenade/smack him with a rusty blade."
With the exception of track 2, my 2 year old loves this. It is music I can get into as well. I skip track 2 because it talking about whacking your shipmate in the eye with various objects such as rusty blades.
