The song drops seven f-bombs, which are backed up by three uses of "a-s" (in a row!); three uses of the n-word; two s-words; one use of "p---y", which is a word in front of the first b-word (used another time in the song); one use of "d--k", and one very profane religious swear. Although the song is quite racist, sexist, obscene, and profane, there is a good message in the song: in the song, Kanye is standing up for himself to critics telling them they shouldn't control him (...no one man should have all that power).
There is some uses of the nword, but it contains many uses of the f-word. There is some swords, and there is one sexual line. i didnt love it at first, now i do. He mentions SNL. There is a line that repeats "jumpin out the window"
R- language and brief sexual diolauge
Kanye's aim here wasn't to be a role model. He wanted to be a rap artist. He opened my eyes to an amazing rock band because of one of the samples he used. (King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man). It's a very catchy tune, along with the rest of his new album. There is also a well-edited clean version available. (Not sure if it's on iTunes, but it's out there somewhere!)
Well-Made,but edgy Rap tune is all about bragging rights
Parnets need to know that this Hip-Hop/Rap song has lot's of Swearing, and some mentions of Suicide at the end of the song.Although it's not as graphic as other Rap Songs,it's still a better fit for older teens.
Messages:Negative 2/5 This song celebrates having all the power in the world and doing whatever you want.
Role Models:Negative 3/5 With Kanye West and his explict songwriting,he's hardly a Role Model.
Violence:3/5 The end of the song is all about jumping out a window and killing yourself.
Sex:0/5 Not an issue
Language:4/5 Most of the words here are the strongest heard in songs,it includes "F**k","S**t" and the "N" word.
Consumerism:1/5 Mentions of having material wealth.
Drinking,Drugs, and Smoking:1/5 One mention of Drinking and Driving.
Is it any good:The Swearing may make you cringe sometimes, but the vocals won't.West still delivers his great vocals, even if his tone does sound violent at times.Along with it's cool background singers and it's mix of the classic Rock Song 21st Century Schizoid Man,makes Power a Well-Made and Well-Done Rap Song and stands out as one on West's best songs yet.
This is one of my favorite songs, I've listened to songs worse than this. So I recommend this song for people who are mature enough to handle the violent lyrics.
Dont get me wrong, this is a great single. Thats what stars are supposed to be for right? Not how iffy it is, how good it is, because I guarantee you it would have been 5 stars if they rated it right. But its still a no, even for casual parents, and thats the violence. The langauge is the worst song ive ever heard.
