parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this record reflects some tough times for the Hogan family, with references to the parents' ugly divorce and the son's arrest, as well as the coming-of-age sexual encounters experienced by the singer herself.

Positive messages: While Hogan's sexual innuendo isn't the worst around, it's mature enough to make this album off-limits for young kids.
Positive role models: Though Hogan can't be blamed for her family's troubles, her unabashed discussion of sex isn't role-model material.
Violence: Not applicable.
Sex: Several songs include fairly explicit sexual lyrics, such as "Strip" ("Come on let's take our clothes off / We can be together baby, after we can doze off") and "Ruff Me Up" ("I have just one request / Pull my hair and make me sweat / Throw me up against the wall / Roll around until we fall").
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What's the story?

What's the story?

Best known for her family's former reality show, Hogan Knows Best, and her own current spin-off, Brooke Knows Best, aspiring singer Brooke Hogan's second album is called THE REDEMPTION. The record is a response to the Hogan family's turmoil of late: her dad, the famous WWE wrestler Hulk Hogan, and mom recent went through an acrimonious divorce, with both parents going on to date much younger people; and her brother landed in jail after crashing his car and critically injuring his passenger. On the CD, Brooke covers these topics, as well as her experimentation with sex -- now that she's finally out from under the notoriously watchful eye of her dad. Plenty of guest R&B/rap stars like Flo Rida, Stack$, and Colby O'donis lend an assist on the album.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

The Redemption has an all-over-the-place feel. Some songs are squarely in the R&B camp, some sound like Britney Spears knock-offs, others have a rock quality -- and none of them are particularly earth-shattering. This musical mix makes the record hard to wrap your ears around, and Hogan's merely decent vocal performance isn't enough to draw you in.
