What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this is one of the better Black Eyed Peas' singles for kids because it doesn't have any profanity or sexual innuendo thrown into the dance mix. While other BEP songs might focus on being sexy, this one is purely about dancing and having fun, save for the title line of "I wanna rock your body."

  • Basically this is just a song about dancing, nothing more, nothing less. There's a bit of a bragging tone to some of the lyrics, but nothing obnoxious.
  • The singers are just focused on their dance moves here, so not much to take away from their behavior, except for some silly lines like: "Get a lil crazy, get a lil stupid."
  • Not applicable.
  • Mild: "I wanna rock yo body."  "Body outta sight, body, body, outta sight."

What's the story?

Here's a familiar beat for parents who know their old-school hip-hop. "It Takes Two," by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock, factors heavily into "ROCK THAT BODY," a party song all about getting funky and showing off your moves. Expect a lot of electronic effects from this single, off THE E.N.D. LP, as it's loaded with lots of synthesizers and auto-tune.

Is it any good?

If this single doesn't get your body moving, you might want to check your pulse. The oft-sampled "It Takes Two" is just the start of the fun on this single, which spotlights will.i.am's smooth sounds. Fergie fans might be disappointed to hear a much altered vocal contribution from the female Pea, but it's still an upbeat hip-hop track that seamlessly combines a collage of musical effects to create a flurry of funk and fun.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about choosing singles that are age-appropriate. What are your family's rules for choosing music? Is it okay to listen to some singles that are clean, even if the band that is playing them also releases iffy content?

  • Talk about bragging. Is it looked upon as cool to be arrogant and self-important by the media? Can you think of some examples of stars who aren't at all humble? Are musicians your role models? Should your self-worth be defined by things like whether you're a good dancer or not? Should music be more about having fun?

  • Talk about gender stereotypes. Do you notice any gender differences in the Black Eyed Peas? Does it seem like Fergie is seen as the sexy member and the men are more the serious musicians? Why don't the male members have to dress up in revealing costumes like she wears?

Great for a lot of ages!
This song has no "off" areas in the bar. There are just mild references to a pretty girl. Great for dancing!

This is a boring and repetitive song
I saw this song preformed on American Idol. Honestly it was not a good song. It is not THAT inappropriate but the song is terrible. It doesn't really have a beat and the mostly the only lyrics were "Rock that body!" Seriously? It is disappointing, don't even bother listening to it.

THE SONG IS FINE!
This is a good song. The only inappropiate is when they say," I wanna rock your body" The title doesnt have anything to o with the song. I dont see the problem with this song! :)
