What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this CD is living proof that excellent contemporary rock can be accomplished without profanity or violence. Use it to show your kids how this can be done, and to inspire the budding musicians in your family.

  • Skillful songwriting and musicianship are what this CD is all about--in that sense, it serves as a wonderful role model for future artists.
  • One reference to violence in the title song-- "I'm gonna buy this gun and start a war, If you can tell me something worth fighting for"--feels metaphorical and unthreatening.
  • No blatant sexuality here.

What's the story?

The members of Coldplay -- a British quartet -- understand the concept of the musical hook far better than most of their contemporaries, and their delivery lives up to their vision. A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD is soulful, moody, and compelling. You'll hear Pink Floyd and Beatles influences, as well as some downright decent poetry. The whole package is absolutely exquisite.

Is it any good?

The writing is imaginative, and the musicianship is excellent throughout -- magestic and emotional without ever veering over the line into pretentiousness. Play it more than once, especially if you have budding rock musicians in the house. This nearly flawless album is likely to get under your skin, as well as theirs.

Great Album
This is certainely one of the best albums I have heard. It may not initially appeal to you, but after a few listens it most likely will be a favorite. Also listen to their new one X and Y, not quite as good, but great nevertheless.

I have recently started listening to more mainstream music and this album came up. It is pleasant. I wouldn't brag about it but it is good nonetheless (that is good for someone who hasn't listened to mainstream in 8 or 9 years).

Best for 13+
Great album-wonderful work! It's nice to see music that is not all technologically produced like most pop and dance albums.

A Coldplay masterpiece.
It's a clean masterpiece, although teens are the only ones who will really appreciate such masterful work. It's rather deep for, say, kids younger than 10. But it's still clean and fine to play around them.
