i only listened to this song because i was curious! I didnt know! I had forgotten what russian roulette is. The lyrics make me think about death and are definitley not for ppl's under 16. ;_;
Fine for teens...plus kids don't know what it means
Just relax with this one. It's not promoting suicide or anything, it's just a storyline with a pretty catchy hook. Her album is "Rated R," but this is PG at the most.
It's a song tht is A sweet slow song (unusual for Rhianna)
Though it has mentions of guns and violent themes I would say it's best ofr ages 13 and up because it mentions suicide quite alot thorughout the song and kids under the age of 13 do not need to be lsitening to this song
"Parents need to know that RUSSIAN ROULETTE is about a girl holding a gun, deciding whether or not to shoot herself. The song ends with a gun going off."
No offense to the author, but this is an extremely inaccurate and ignorant review. First of all, the whole game of "Russian Roulette" mentioned in the song is a metaphor for Rihanna being stuck in a tough relationship that she wants to continue being in. She DOESN'T want to kill herself; she keeps playing this "game" of chance and risks her heart being broken for the man she loves. Second, in the highly-metaphorical music video, the Grey's Anatomy doctor (Rihanna's boyfriend in the video) is the one that gets killed. That's symbolic of his heart being broken instead of Rihanna's and it has nothing to do with actual violence or suicide. When I first heard this song back when its video premiered on 20/20, I found the main "heartbeat" in the background of the song to be very reminiscent of the House theme song ("Teardrop" by Massive Attack). Anyway, this is one of Rihanna's most powerful and dramatic songs.
This song is about bad relationships and the chances are that you may lose that game, but there are a few violent metaphors that may be taken seriously: "If you play, you play for keeps. Take a gun and count to 3" and "So just pull the trigger". Russian Roulette is also slow and slightly boring, so it may not appeal to kids and teens anyway.
Oh my god people are stupid! The songs not about suicide! The lyrics refer to the game of love in which you take chances even though anyone can get hurt. It's a great song, but very dark and forboding, and may send the wrong messages to some.
to me its like she comparing the game russian roulette to an abusive relationship.but i have to say the video for this song is kinda creepy not scary but creppy.
Okay i agree with the last reviewer because one it is on about a bad relationships and though it talks about sucide did you ever think that 13 year olds think of that (not me) but still this age group can handle stuff like this okay and THE ONE THING I HATE ABOUT THIS SITE THEY RATE THINGS WAY TO HARSHLY!
This song technically isn't about suicide, Rihanna has actually clarified that. She says it's about falling in love again after a bad relationship. I simply don't like the song, it's too slow for me.
I have been a huge Rihanna fan for several years now, but as soon as I heard this song I was heavily offended. I love the melody of this song, so that's why I gave it 3 stars. The talk about suicide though... that goes against everything I stand for. Life is to precious to end with your own hand, and i prefer to live mine to the fullest.
